Exotic Pets
Our Doctors have a wide breadth of first opinion exotic experience and our Vet Nurses and Vet Assistants are trained in stress-free handling to help you with your less traditional - but just as loved - scaly, feathered and furry friends.
We can perform consultations, general anesthesia, dentistry and surgery in a wide range of species.

Please follow the tips below to help make your pet feel
as comfortable as possible during their visit:
Rabbits, Guinea pigs & Chinchillas
Though a lot more common than some "exotic" species, these pets have specific gastrointestinal needs and should be brought with their regular diet, including plenty of fresh hay, to their appointment.
Small rodents & marsupials
Small mammals have a high metabolic rate and and should be brought with food (including a few high sugar treats) and water, in a small covered travel cage if possible.

If you use a pouch for your sugar-glider, place it inside a cat carrier or similar closed container to ensure safety while outside and in the clinic.
Reptiles & Amphibians
Cold-blooded animals should be brought in a secured container with adequate ventilation. The aim is to keep them as close to their optimal temperature as possible, for example with a well-padded warming device such as warm water bottle (ideally outside the container to reduce the risk of thermal burns).
Birds
Bring birds in a small travel cage with minimal cage "furniture" to help with reduced-stress handling.
From backyard chickens to your 12-year old cockatiel, we are here to help.
We refer more complicated medical work-ups to a board-certified specialist at Bird and Exotic Pet Wellness Center in Ohio.
Pigs
We have a few miniature pig and house pigs that come and see us at MiVet for dental work, nail trims and minor ailments!
